TICKET 01 · Quality table

A figure needs a way to measure it.

For a mill buyer the useful question is simple: does this report describe the lot on the truck, under the method you agreed? Treat figures published by producers, standards bodies and regulators as a starting point for the talk with QC.

Match the report to the material

Ask for the lot and sample references, the sampling date and the test date. An old report can start a conversation. It cannot tell you the condition of a new delivery.

Sort out the moisture method

Moisture means how wet the copra is. Find out whether the number comes from a meter or a lab method. Agree how conflicting readings are handled before dispatch. Results from different methods are not automatically interchangeable.

Oil content is not recovery

A lab oil figure is not a promise of what your extraction line will produce. Ask for its measurement basis. Read FFA (free fatty acids) separately and ask which analytical convention the lab used.

Grade names do not set limits

Kora names grades A and B, SNI 01-3946-1995 uses A-I, A-II, B and C, and the Philippine BAFS bulletin uses Grades 1 to 3. They do not map one to one, and Kora’s mapping to public standards is still unresolved. Do not fill a blank figure from a grade name. The full comparison is in the article on copra quality standards.

Still to settle with your QC team

Foreign matterResearch · Kora limit unconfirmed
Decide what counts as foreign matter, such as dust and shell pieces, and how the result is worked out.
Mould and defectsResearch · method and limits needed
Mould you can see is one thing, a toxin test is another. A visual check does not replace a lab result.
AflatoxinsResearch · specification unresolved
Ask what is measured, in which unit, by which method, and for which use. No numerical limit is set here.
